What hyaluronic acid is, and what it does
Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan, a long-chain sugar molecule that occurs naturally in skin, connective tissue and the eyes. Its defining property is its capacity to hold water. A single molecule binds up to a thousand times its weight in moisture.
In skin, this translates to better hydration, a plumper appearance, softening of fine lines, and improved barrier function. Unlike occlusives such as petrolatum or silicones, which sit on top of the skin and form a film, hyaluronic acid actively draws moisture into the upper layers of the epidermis. It works as a humectant rather than a sealant.

Why molecular weight matters more than the percentage
